Alocasia Melo, also known as "The Jewel Alocasia," is a rare and visually stunning plant native to Southeast Asia. Unlike other Alocasias, this plant has thick, leathery leaves with a unique textured appearance. The dark green, almost blueish leaves are covered in intricate patterns, giving it a stone-like quality. This compact, slow-growing Alocasia is perfect for indoor collections, adding an exotic, architectural element to any space, including terrariums.

Alocasia Melo Care Tips:

1. Light:

Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light levels. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn its delicate leaves.

2. Soil:

Use a well-draining mix of soil, orchid bark, and perlite. Do not use peat moss, as it retains too much moisture and increases the risk of root rot.

3. Watering:

Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feels dry. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Be cautious of overwatering, as the thick leaves store moisture, making it more drought-tolerant than other Alocasias.

4. Humidity:

Thrives in high humidity levels above 60%. If the air is too dry, increase humidity by misting or placing the plant near a humidifier.

5. Temperature:

Prefers warm conditions between 65-85°F (18-29°C). Protect it from cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F (16°C).

6. Fertilization:

Feed every 4-6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce feeding in the fall and winter months.

7. Pruning:

Remove any yellowing or dead leaves to encourage healthy growth and maintain its compact shape.

8. Propagation:

Propagate through division during repotting. Carefully separate offsets from the mother plant and plant them in similar well-draining soil.
